One of the most important things men take into account when establishing a relationship with a Colombian woman is her conservative personality or conservative nature. This is very attractive for foreigners due to the differences existing in developed societies talking about women behavior nowadays.
But what does this mean? Does this have something to do with politics?
No, it’s not anything other than living life according to certain behavior guidelines. These guidelines are given by society trying to keep members acting in the “correct” way. According to what one’s society thinks is the correct way of doing thin gs. We can say that any society establishes that acting in the correct way so as not to hurt another member of society.

Yesterday was Valentine's Day in the US and to a lesser degree in Colombia. Although Valentine's Day is not a traditional Colombian Holiday, this day is becoming more and more known and accepted within Colombian culture. And my **guess** would be that Colombian women are behind this surge in popularity in addition to the floral industry in Colombia. =)
I normally get my US news from internet sources since i live in Colombia. I ran across a CNN video entitled "Online Matchmaking Warning" which focused on the online matchmaking phenomenon and some of its dangers. Yes, i did mention "dangers".
Much to its discredit, the video only pointed out a few common sense tips, and only 1 real warning which people should be reminded of as it relates to international marriage agencies. First, you must be very clear in what your goal is. If you are truly interested in marriage, then a marriage agency is appropriate for you. If you are looking for prostitutes and physical encounters only, then you should be perusing through those types of websites.

When I speak to most people from the US, they know of Colombia by only 3 things: beautiful Colombian women, Pablo Escobar (murders and kidnappings), and the cocaine industry. Fortunately, there is an still an over-abundance of beautiful Colombian women, Pablo Escobar died in 1993, and the Colombian government is still battling a civil war with Marxists rebels and confronting the drug cartels in parts of Colombia with the assistance of the US government. Unfortunately, almost the entire world is pretty much ignorant of the realities of current day Colombia, and continues to hold an outdated opinion of Colombia and the multitude of things Colombia and the Colombian people have to offer the world. One only has to experience Colombia in person to realize the bad rap the world places on Colombia, which is perpetuated by the world mainstream media with their philosophy that "negativity sells". The worlds media really do an injustice to Colombia and the wonderful Colombian people. All you need to do is visit Colombia, and you will see firsthandfor yourself!

I often times get asked my opinion on the topic of older, more mature Western gentleman having relationships, either boyfriend-girlfriend/fiancés/spouses, with women much younger than them. The typical ages asked about are usually men between the ages of 45-70, and ages 18-25 for the women. Western “standards” or norms are quite well known, and it is definitely not the norm to have a 20+ age difference in the US. Colombian women, on the other hand, place a higher value on the character, personality, and love factor within a relationship, than on the chronological years of the man. Within Colombia, one can see such couples walking together hand in hand, who obviously have an age gap of more than 20 years, and in some instances, 30-40 year differences. However, there is a segment of Colombian society which also frowns upon such relationships, just as it is frowned upon in Western cultures.

If you could not communicate with an American/Western woman, what kind of relationship would you have in the US? Some men might say “the best kind, of course!” But seriously, though, think about it. Both of you would not be in sync, and both of you would definitely be on a collision course, which cannot lead to good things happening, right?
Communication is a vital element in relationships. Successfully dealing with the many complex issues associated with cultural differences in cross-cultural relationships can at times be somewhat overwhelming and frustrating. I think it can almost be compared with the problems experienced between a couple where one partner is completely deaf and unable at times to communicate with the non-deaf partner. Expressing ones thoughts to a loved one can many times be misinterpreted or not even understood at all, both of which can lead to inappropriate responses and reactions. Imagine that you want to tell your loved one that you would like to get married with her, and that she believes that you are telling her that you want to end the relationship with her?? Talk about expecting a positive reaction to your proposal, but then she reacts negatively believing that you are leaving her!!! Those kinds of headaches, drama, and emotional problems can be completely avoided by proper communication practices.
